Arrows + Hope Celebrates a Decade of Ministry in Uganda!

Arrows + Hope continues in Uganda today only because of God’s grace! His great love for these children has shown through how He’s provided these past ten years. We give God the glory for all He’s done, and we’re excited for what’s to come!
The Beginning of Arrows + Hope
The Fisher family moved to Uganda at the end of 2012 for around 2.5 years. They created relationships with the beautiful people of Uganda. Some of these relationships were with orphans and street children who ended up being the very first sponsored children of Arrows + Hope: Esther, Betty, Samuel, Amiss, Abdul, Zach, Jorem, and others.
In 2014, Chris and Michelle were helping to reconcile a 10-year-old street child with his family. This event led them to the home of a 12-year-old boy named David, who they found in a mud hut, lying on a mat, skin and bones, neglected and appearing close to death. They brought David to a hospital, but he passed away just a couple days later.
David’s heart-wrenching story became the seed for a future ministry of helping more “Davids” in Uganda. The following excerpt is from a blog Michelle wrote in 2014:
This was several weeks ago now. I have had time to process. I’ve had time to think about this young boy’s life. He mattered to God and this is why he mattered to us. This is why we were able to forgo our plans for the afternoon and do all we could for this child. Our prayer is that the family could see His love through us and that this same love would spark change in the village they traveled from. That they would value life as our Father in Heaven values life. We care for the ONE because He cares for the ONE.
In 2013, Sandy came with a small group to visit the Fisher family in Uganda, and left a piece of her heart there. She visited again the following year. Soon after the Fishers’ returned to the US in 2015, Sandy met with Michelle and another friend for coffee. They talked about an opportunity to partner with a Ugandan pastor and his wife. Having a heart for orphans, the pastor and his wife were already supporting the six sponsored children the Fishers had encountered during their time in Uganda.
From this initial conversation, they took a step of faith, paving the way for the ministry that is Arrows + Hope today.
Arrows + Hope Today
Today, Arrows + Hope is reaching the most vulnerable children in Uganda – dedicated to pointing them, their caregivers, and their communities to the Hope found in Jesus Christ. Our vision is to see lives transformed by understanding their identity in Christ, leading them to value life and extend compassion to the marginalized, just as Jesus did.
Arrows + Hope is neither a school nor an orphanage. We are a long-term, relational, and holistic ministry committed to the physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being of children. Our approach prioritizes family preservation, working to prevent children from entering orphanages or living on the streets.
Recognizing the great loss many of these children have experienced, consistency is important to fostering security and trust. Our dedicated Ugandan team focuses on two primary areas:
#1 – Discipleship
- Impacting children through School Discipleship Ministry and Village Center Days/Ministry Center Gatherings
- Guiding new believers and caregivers through Discipleship programs
- Implementing Farming God’s Way Training
- Providing access to God’s Word through Audio Bibles
#2 – Education
- Partnering with local schools to provide Primary, Secondary, University, and Vocational Training opportunities
- Equipping individuals with skills through Business Training
